Schoolhouse Restaurant and Hotel
The Schoolhouse Restaurant & Hotel in Hook, a quiet hamlet in the Civil Parish of Lydiard Tregoze, is surrounded by peaceful countryside between Swindon and Royal Wootton Bassett. The former Lydiard Tregoze schoolhouse was charmingly converted into The Schoolhouse Hotel in 1989. Prior to the hotel accommodation being added it was a restaurant known as The Schoolhouse Restaurant. Until 1965 the building was a Victorian school, built in 1859 by the National Society and the St John family. The St. John family lived in Lydiard House, a stately home and park just a stone's throw from The Schoolhouse. All historical features are retained in the public areas making The Schoolhouse Restaurant & Hotel an unique place to eat and stay. When lodging with us do enjoy our room service breakfast, 3 course dinner just or a la carte breakfast to enjoy the Victorian features of the building and perhaps “hear” the voices of the children who were taught here a century ago.
Our guests and visitors after visiting the local attractions or work will appreciate the tranquil location for a candlelit dinner in our restaurant or enjoy a rest in our comfortable rooms. Log fires will be burning in winter and in the summer the outside terrace will be serving cool drinks and delicious food.
We are a short five-minute drive from junction 16 of the M4, Swindon and Royal Wootton Bassett business parks, North Wiltshire Crematorium and a plethora of tourist attractions.
Free WiFi is available in all bedrooms. Located on the main route to the West Country, Wales and Ireland we are an ideal stop off for tourists and business travellers.

Stay at The Schoolhouse Restaurant and Hotel between Swindon and Royal Wootton Bassett and enjoy gentle walks or cycle in Lydiard Country Park next to the hotel. Lydiard Park is a beautiful historic estate on the western edge of Swindon, with the Palladian House, Church and Walled Garden, set in 260 acres of parkland. The children's play area, events and education programmes make Lydiard Park a great destination for a family day out. For the more sporty there is the Ridgeway, ideal for serious hikers and off-road cyclists.
Perhaps you fancy riding lessons or a hack (if you have spent time in the saddle). Peter, our horse, is stabled in Royal Wootton Bassett and he and his mates can offer you some fun! Ask Tonny to make bookings on your behalf with accredited riding instructors.
There is a plethora of local gardens and places to visit such as; Oxford, Marlborough, Cheltenham, Lacock Abbey, Stonehenge, the Cotswolds, Bath and Avebury Stone Circle, Longleat Wildlife & Safari Park, Berkeley Castle, The National Monument Center, Sudeley Castle, Devises Locks, Gatcombe Park, Westonbirt Arboretum, Kemble Airfield, Bristol, Barbury Castle and Castle Combe. The McArthur Glen shopping village is 4 miles away, the perfect Christmas shopping location.

Tonny, Karen and Fred
We are a family run friendly hotel, restaurant and catering business between Swindon and Royal Wootton Bassett, suitable for business travellers and tourists visiting the Fairford Airshow (R.I.A.T.) , WOMAD , Badminton Horse Trials and other events. We are a 5 minute drive from North Wiltshire Crematorium at junction 16 of the M4, the main route to the west country and an ideal stopover en-route to Southwest England, Wales or the ferry to Ireland. Owned and operated by two experienced professionals in a relaxed manner, providing fine food, comfortable rooms and friendly service without "pomp and circumstance".

The three of us do our utmost to make people feel welcome and ask all our guests to respect our home and accept the imperfections that come with a listed building like the Schoolhouse. In turn we provide reasonably priced, clean and comfortable accommodation, friendly service and quality food. Karen and I have done so successfully for nearly 32 years and intend to do so for years to come.
